One can definitely call Himachal Pradesh as the fruits bowl of India. With a large variety of fruits grown in the region, the state has acquired the position of an important fruit exporter. The most prestigious fruit of Himachal is apple. Apple forms 88% of all the fruit produces of this area. Apple can be seen growing naturally in the upper regions of the state like Kinnaur, Shimla and Kullu. Himachal Pradesh is famous for its apples not only in India but throughout the world as well. To witness the glory of different varieties of fruits of this region, one must visit Himachal during the cropping season i.e. April and May. This region is also rich in Cherry, Strawberry and Litchi fruits. Dry fruits like Raisins, Walnut, Newjas, and Almonds etc. also form a part of the state’s exports. With all such varieties of fruits, Himachal Pradesh is rightly the fruit king of the nation.


There are quite a lot of women co-operative societies in Himachal where one can get all sorts of home- made eatables including delicious pickles. No one can know the best recipes of pickles better than the village folk. The major varieties of pickles include Mango, Lemon, Cauliflower, Garlic, Carrot, Green Chillies etc. Pickles are also made out of locally grown vegetables like Lingri and Jimikand. One must have a taste of all such mouth- watering varieties of pickles while visiting Himachal Pradesh. These are easily available in all the districts.


Jams, jellies and juices of Himachal Pradesh are also quite known as most of them are not factory made. A major advancement in this field is made by the Bhuria women who run their own brand of home- made jams and jellies including all varieties of murabbas as well. The state includes a government based outlet for its jams and juices under the name HPMC. These outlets are spread throughout the state and in major cities of the country like: New Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai etc. One can get concentrated or pure juices among which apple, kiwi and litchi juices are quite famous. Jams are made up of apple, mango, peach and a lot other locally grown fruits. There is no room for missing out on these products as they are highly organic, natural and delicious too.
